Taekwondo Program for Kids

We created a Youth Taekwondo Program in order to build community, teach goal setting, discipline and confidence, and propote a healthy lifestyle.

 

 

Why taekwondo? Taekwondo unlike most martial arts (kung-fu, karate, jiu-jitsu) is an Olympic sport and is regulated by the IOC.  This means that there is a level of standardization and consistancy world wide.  Additionally, students can pursue it not only as a means of self-defence but also as a sport.

Keys to success:

Find a knowlegable instructor:  If there is not a WTF (World Taekwondo Federation) Certified instructor in your community, please check out USA Taekwondo's Club location app: http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Taekwondo/V2-Membership/Club-Locator-App  Many schools have college students or advanced black belts that would be willing to teach part-time at a very reasonable rate. 

Consistancy is key: The pit-fall that many programs fall into is taking too much time off, changing times, or offering too much time off in between sessions.  If possible make the program year-round and stick to the same dates and times. Getting students into a regular habbit will not only ensure more success within the program but it will also cut down on the number of people who leave the program.

Find a balance between fun and discipline:  Taekwondo needs to be fun. At the end of the day if it's too serious the kids will not enjoy it. However, many parents will want their children to learn respect, discipline, and integrity. We've seen huge improvements in our students' behavior and school and at home through taekwondo.
